As a cornerstone of research and development at NTU, the Office of Research and Development actively implements a broad range of strategies to support faculty, encompassing resource allocation, research funding, and infrastructure development. First, funding programs are tailored to meet the needs of individual or team-based projects. For individual endeavors, the New Faculty Startup Resources program provides initial funding to assist newly appointed faculty to establish their research environments quickly in the early stages of their careers. For collaborative efforts, the NTU Seed Projects for Interdisciplinary Research foster cross-disciplinary partnerships, while the NTU Core Consortiums and Competitiveness program encourages innovative research by supporting early-career and mid-career scholars. Furthermore, NTU offers international collaboration programs designed to facilitate partnerships with globally renowned institutions, including the establishment of joint research centers and laboratories, as well as bilateral cooperation agreements.
In terms of research infrastructure, NTU has developed Instrument Sharing Centers and the NTU Consortia of Key Technologies. The Valuable Publications, Instruments, and Equipment Procurement Subsidy supports high-potential researchers in acquiring state-of-the-art equipment, while also providing public-service valuable instruments to ensure wider access and greater research opportunities across the academic community.
Besides resource allocation and infrastructure development, the Office of Research and Development plays a pivotal role in translating NTU’s academic achievements into practical technologies and products that benefit society and drive economic progress. By strategically managing its patent portfolio, the Office seeks to boost the success rate of technology transfers while fostering an innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem. This approach gradually establishes a sustainable academic-economic cycle. Moving forward, the Office of Research and Development will continue to refine its strategies, inspiring faculty and students to push the boundaries of scientific exploration. These efforts will further enhance NTU’s research capabilities and amplify its impact on both academia and society.
