Beyond Education: NTU's Role in Shaping Society and Culture
Prof. Da-Ming Wang, Secretary-General and Director of the Office of Sustainability, National Taiwan University

In addition to fulfilling their mission of talent cultivation and innovation in research, Universities must also take on the responsibility of demonstrating the value of higher education and defining their role in society. Upon assuming office in 2023, President Wen-Chang Chen outlined the development goals of National Taiwan University (NTU) for the next four years: “It is NTU’s belief to contribute to global civilization and social progress. To this end, nurturing students to become future leaders is an unshakable responsibility. NTU is committed to equipping students with comprehensive qualities such as professional skills, social responsibility, global perspectives, and leadership abilities.” As the largest and most academically influential research university in Taiwan, NTU not only aims to cultivate students' altruistic spirit through education but is also committed to making tangible contributions to the nation, society, and industry through action.

In this issue, we will highlight several key cases that showcase how NTU teams leverage their academic expertise to address challenges both domestically and internationally, thereby fulfilling the university's commitment to social responsibility. These contributions align with NTU's mission and underscore its dedication to tackling contemporary challenges through impactful academic and research initiatives.
