Cultivating Students' Research Capabilities through the Bachelor’s Thesis Award

National Taiwan University has established the Bachelor’s Thesis Award since the 2016 academic year to inspire undergraduate students with research potential to pursue academic endeavors and to honor their achievements. This award is divided into four categories: the Fu Ssu-nien Award, the President’s Award, the Dean’s Award, and the Excellence Award. Winners receive a certificate of recognition at the award ceremony. Furthermore, recipients of the Fu Ssu-nien Award and the President’s Award are also granted monetary prizes.

During the review process for the award, the selection committee highly affirmed the students for their dedication and outstanding research outcomes. The number of participants has steadily grown each year, highlighting the positive impact of the award in cultivating a research-oriented culture among undergraduate students. Through various competition formats organized by each college, students are encouraged to engage in research early and continue developing their research skills. Since the 2022 academic year, the University has compiled the abstracts of award-winning theses from both the Bachelor’s Thesis Award and the Graduate Student President’s Award into a collection. This compilation is archived in the NTU History Gallery, Main Library, and presented to the award recipients. Beyond documenting the outstanding research achievements of NTU students, this initiative aims to inspire future generations, foster academic excellence, and strengthen the University’s vibrant research culture.

To further enhance students' enthusiasm for research and boost their global mobility, starting from the 2023 academic year, the award recipients will enjoy higher priority for exchange student opportunities. Additionally, the University will offer overseas scholarships to encourage awardees to participate in various international education and exchange programs, broaden their global perspectives, and continue pursuing excellence.
