NTU D-School × The Reporter for Kids: Exploration Learning Redefines Success Beyond a Single Path

On November 8th, 2025, the College of Design and Innovation (Stanley Wang D-School), National Taiwan University, partnered with The Reporter for Kids to host a talk from the” My 14 Years Old series”. Under the theme “Youth Trials and Future Practice,” the event brought together sports study-abroad entrepreneur Chen Szu Chi, rapper Doggydogo (Ta-Chien Lin), music producer Huang Shao Yong, and NTU Professor Emeritus of Psychology Jong-Tsun Huang. Drawing from their own teenage experiences, the speakers engaged in a cross-generational dialogue on exploration, detours, and the power of support.

Chen shared that at age 13 she broke a national backstroke record and was labeled a prodigy, a title that came with immense expectations and pressure. Through exploring learning and having a gap year, she later ventured into entrepreneurship and founded a sports study-abroad information platform—redefining what success could look like. Doggydogo, a graduate of NTU’s Department of Political Science, recounted how a D-School course introduced him to traditional poetic chanting, sparking a creative journey into language and culture that now shapes his music and personal storytelling.

Addressing parent–child relationships and generational gaps, The Reporter for Kids Managing Director Jill Yang noted that age 14 is a pivotal period marked by self-doubt and the search for direction—one that calls for recognition of diverse life paths. Huang Shao Yong reflected on his decision to enter the music industry at age 30. His father, Jong-Tsun Huang, admitted initial concern but ultimately offered full support, emphasizing that “exploration matters more than early specialization.”

During the Q&A, Ruby Yun-Ju Huang, Chief Explorer of the Exploratory Learning Program, stressed that exploration is not only a task for young people but a shared journey for families. Through cross-generational learning and honest conversations, she believes society can foster deeper understanding and stronger support for the next generation.
