Adjusting to life in a new country is easier with support and companionship. At National Taiwan University (NTU), international students are welcomed into a community where mutual care and belonging begin from day one.
Peer networks play a central role in this experience. NTU is home to 22 international student organizations representing diverse regions and communities, alongside student groups within English-taught programs. Through airport pickup, practical guidance, and shared language and cultural backgrounds, senior students help newcomers navigate life in Taiwan with greater confidence. Across campus, more than 1,000 buddies of International Student Volunteer support students during their early transition to university life.
NTU also encourages student organizations that promote intercultural understanding and religious inclusion. Groups such as the “Islam Peace Club” and “Acts2Taipei Club” foster dialogue and mutual respect through cultural and faith-based exchange. During Ramadan, the university provides flexibility and practical support to help Muslim students integrate religious observance into campus life.
Student voices are actively included in institutional development. Each year, the Department of International Affairs, NTUSA, hosts International Students Conference, bringing together over 60 representatives from university offices and student communities to discuss concerns and improve student life. Residence hall self-governance groups further strengthen community through more than 30 activities each semester.
Institutional support complements these peer networks. Orientation programs, campus tours, student care initiatives, and the International Student Second Mentor Program—connecting around 100 mentors with students from more than 40 countries—provide guidance extending beyond academics.
Internationalization at NTU is ultimately lived through everyday experiences. Annual events such as the World Carnival and year-end gatherings, attracting more than 2,700 international students, bring cultures, languages, and friendships together—transforming internationalization into a vibrant and deeply felt part of campus life.
