In response to the rapid evolution of technology and the increasingly interconnected nature of global challenges, National Taiwan University (NTU) has adopted joint international research platforms as a central strategic initiative. By actively linking with leading universities and research institutions in Europe, the United States, and Japan, NTU is forging a high-level collaborative research network that spans countries, disciplines, and generations, significantly enhancing the University’s visibility and influence on the global academic stage.
NTU’s joint international research platforms span across various fields, including quantum technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green materials, precision medicine, nanotechnology, and fundamental physics. Its partners include world-class institutions such as the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), Paris-Saclay University, Université Grenoble Alpes, the University of Osaka, the University of Tsukuba, Kyushu University, University of Pennsylvania, Institute for Advanced Study, and the Max Planck Society. These collaborations have not only led to the establishment of joint laboratories and research centers but also created long-term, stable mechanisms for talent development and academic exchange.
Through these joint platforms, NTU research teams can integrate advanced instrumentation, key technologies, and international think tank resources, accelerating breakthroughs in frontier research. These collaborations have also facilitated the co-authorship of high-impact publications, advanced the maturation of emerging technologies, and strengthened NTU’s competitiveness in global research metrics and academic reputation. Meanwhile, these partnerships provide diverse training opportunities for early-career scholars and students, including joint supervision, short- and long-term exchange programs, summer schools, and international seminars, cultivating a new generation of research talents equipped with both global vision and practical capabilities.
Looking ahead, NTU will continue to use its joint international research platforms as a key hub for deepening global partnerships, advancing frontier technologies, and cultivating world-class talent. With Taiwan as its base, the University aims to channel innovative energy to the world. By harnessing global expertise, NTU is steadily advancing toward its goal of becoming an outstanding research university that leads in Asia and exerts a meaningful impact worldwide.
