Since 2021, NTU has pioneered the Specialization Program (NTU-SP), which reorganizes individual courses into cohesive, theme-based modules spanning diverse fields. NTU-SP not only enables students to deepen their expertise in the primary field but also guides them in purposefully crossing academic boundaries and exploring new knowledge areas.
Each SP consists of 4–5 systematically sequenced courses that cover foundational knowledge, theoretical frameworks, and methodologies within the field. The curriculum culminates in a capstone project or internship that allows students to integrate and apply their learning. Through a modular curriculum design, NTU-SP provides students with a structured, goal-oriented learning pathway.
Currently, over 80% of NTU’s departments have implemented the NTU-SP, totaling 270 SPs and counting. This program empowers students from all disciplines to flexibly allocate their credits, construct a cohesive and practical knowledge framework, and achieve meaningful interdisciplinary learning outcomes. The impact is clear: in 2021, 7.9% of students chose to pursue SPs offered by departments outside their primary field, and by 2023, this figure had risen to 14.5%.
NTU-SP is a key cornerstone of the University Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s Program (UIBP) curriculum. The UIBP core curriculum requires students to complete four distinct SPs across different colleges. Students have the flexibility to design personalized cross-college learning plans and create their own interdisciplinary academic paths.
