NTU actively works to connect domestic and international students with prominent figures of global visions so that they can pass on their own experiences to students. Since its establishment in 2008, the Global Initiatives Symposium in Taiwan (GIS) has been held 14 times, with 3,226 youth representatives from 52 countries. Students from various countries discuss global trends, brainstorm short papers or action plans, and promote local development. Speakers at the symposium include President of the Republic of China Tsai Ing-wen, Chairman of Quanta Computer Barry Lam, Nobel laureate Lee Yuan-tseh, Speaker of the Afghan Parliament Fawzia Koofi, Minister of the Ministry of Digital Affairs in the Executive Yuan Audrey Tang, and former Mayor of Taipei City Ko Wen-je.
As the leader of the Asia-Pacific International Youth Conference, the GIS student team prepares rigorously for pre-event interviews with those in the industry, government, and academic sectors. From them, the team gathers materials to be used in symposiums surrounding three main topics: important international trends, humanities and the society, and the competitions related to technology, business, and managerial planning. In doing so, the conference not only allows students to benefit from the experiences of industry leaders but also further inspires young minds to think innovatively.
