With a vision to provide a learner-centered, open university, the NTU D-School was established to nurture innovative, interdisciplinary scholars, offers a more open and free academic system, and provides a more active/self-directed learning experience. Through sandbox-style experimental education, the D-School enhances students' and teachers' creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial spirits, as well as engaging in interdisciplinary and praxis-based learning through social participation. The D-School approach not only adds diverse perspectives to education, but also enables students to achieve self-improvement through hands-on practice and maintain a passion for learning.
Aiming to bring about innovation, breakthroughs, and opportunities for hands-on practice, the D-School has been promoting several key programs in recent years. "Exploratory Learning Project" allows students to remain enrolled at NTU without suspending their studies, while exploring and learning on their own in any field, both locally and overseas. "Design Your Own Courses" provides students the opportunity to become knowledge carriers or advocates, thereby enhancing their active learning and fostering their uniqueness through an educational role reversal.
In order to increase flexibility in the learning system and break out of existing educational frameworks, the "Trans-disciplinary Bachelor Degree Program" has been established, which is expected to cultivate innovators in emerging fields through NTU's interdisciplinary learning environment and inspire students' awareness of active learning.
In addition, the D-School actively collaborates with overseas scholars to offer courses and workshops which broaden students' global perspectives and increase their thirst for knowledge and motivation for lifelong learning.
