In valuing the spirit of altruism, NTU offers nearly 700 service-learning courses each year, with more than 50 student clubs providing long-term services to rural areas. In the past decade, 30 Social Devotion Special Awards were granted to our students, highlighting the universal values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
One of the Award winners, Elle Yang, is a doctoral student from NTU's International Degree Program in Climate Change and Sustainable Development (IPCS). In addition, she founded the NGO “Love Binti International” and has served as a long-term international volunteer in Africa. Through personal experience, Elle has realized that "helping, serving, and supporting" can not be achieved merely through donations but a complex system involving culture, people, political and economic history, and the environment. Leveraging the interdisciplinary expertise at NTU, she has built a solid foundation for researching health behavior and community science in Africa. Furthermore, she has brought in electrochemical water treatment technology and collaborated with NTU’s Graduate Institute of Environmental Engineering for implementing projects on local water purification.
NTU is committed to creating more opportunities for the youth and helping them engage with NGOs, hence the establishment of “NTU iNGO Academy” this year. Through experience sharing and professional guidance, students who aspire to pursue NGO career paths will efficiently and effectively develop international service experience while enhancing international visibility of Taiwan.
